Breaking news!

Conference fun! Congrats to seven current LLD lab members for being accepted to present their work at two conference this spring/summer of 2022 - Lauren, Madison, Sarah, and Madeline presented really cool new work on how children learn language and communicate with their caregivers at the Cognitive Development Society in April, and Liesl, Bri, and Sneh presented work on language learning and possible delays at the Society for Research in Child Language Disorders in June. Stay tuned for future work on these projects!

New paper!  A new paper on all the different processes and timelines that are involved in learning a new word, including how children with language delays may learn differently. We show here how vocabulary plays a role in immediate reactions to words as well as retention and generalization. Message us for a copy or find a free link to the full article here: https://www.doi.org/10.1017/S0305000921000817.

Grant awarded! Dr. Sarah Kucker, Director of the LLD lab and Assistant Professor in Psychology, has been awarded a R15 grant from the National Institute of Child Development ($330,000). The title of the project is “Technological timescales: Identifying the impact of digital media on the mechanisms of word learning”. The project tests how the process of word learning unfolds in digital environments and the cascading impact of digital media on vocabulary outcomes in infants and toddlers.
